At our October we had a talk by a naturopathic practitioner. She talked about diet and exercise and what a naturopathic practitioner actually does, giving the body the chance to heal and stay healthy by eating well, taking regular exercise and resting. Neuropathic Practitioners have a long history, back over 100 years, and started by advocating eating foods with less additives. At the time bread for instance was adulterated with all sorts of extra ingredients and fillers. Companies such as Kelloggs and Allinsons set up at about the same time selling wholemeal cereals and breads. She had a colourful plate of fruit, flowers and vegetables which could be used for a healthy meal, and showed us some exercises which she recommended for those who sit down for most of the day, ie office workers. She also recommended starting off each day with a cold paddle with feet in cold water, but most members did not seem too keen on trying that.
We had an exhibition of items connected with Jane Austen to celebrate the bi-centenary of her death, and there were many items brought it by members.
