“Everybody is a hat person”, we were told at the March meeting. Sophie Fryer came to talk about millinery. This word comes from Milan, one of the centres for hats, the main centre for hat making in the UK is Luton. Hats have been made for centuries of felt, fur and straw. Now they can be made from sinnamay which is packing case material from Thailand or The Philippines. Sophie brought along a fine collection of hats she had made by hand. Members enjoyed trying them on. Some people had brought along their own hats. In the interval Traid craft provided a stall.

At our February meeting different varieties of homemade soup were served in cups with rolls and were enjoyed by members. We were honoured by a visit from the County Chairman and 2 Advisers. They had come to refresh our knowledge of the where, what and why of the WI. It was useful for newish members and even old hands learnt something.
Later in February 6 of our members were joined by 2 members of the Kitchen Dancers WI from Winchester in a lovely walk around Overton. We then had lunch in the Greyhound Pub, where 3 more members joined us. Thank you so much to Jenny for organising a great day out, she even sorted out some sunny weather. Our usual coffee morning was turned in to a crochet workshop for those who wanted to have a go. |
