Sixteen members and two visitors from Gardening Club and Rooksdown Revellers WI attended this virtual meeting, together with our speaker.
Sally, as President, welcomed members and guests and thanked everyone for joining us.
Our speaker for the evening was Jo May, who was a percussionist and had studied at the Royal College of Music. She was doing a spoon playing workshop for us. We had been asked to bring along two soup spoons in order to take part in the workshop. Jo explained the different types of spoons that could be used and demonstrated the various sounds which could be achieved by wooden, metal and plastic spoons. Having explained how to hold the spoons we all had the challenge of creating a rhythm using legs, hands and spoons. After plenty of practice we ended by playing as a group ‘What shall we do with the drunken sailor?’ A fun experience which was enjoyed by all.
