The speaker was David Woolford who told us about his lung transplant 8 years ago at Papworth Hospital. The operation took seven hours and he was in hospital for four weeks. He seemed very healthy now although he takes pills and goes for checkups . He enjoyed judging our competition for a Victoria Sandwich to earn the Nancy Kirby silver salver.
The celebration of the centenary party of Oakley and Deane WI in April was a great success. Many congratulatory cards and e-mails were received. The Mayor gave a plaque which will be engraved to celebrate the occasion held at the Golf Club. All the card and the Mayor’s plaque were displayed at the meeting for all to see. Also whilst we had a drink and piece of one of the delicious Victoria Sandwiches pictures of the centenary birthday party were prejected on a screen. A report of the Spring Council meeting at Portsmouth was given. The Guildhall had been packed to see Anton Du Beke
