Following an extremely generous offer from Andy McKenzie, Head of the Cookery School at Lainston House, 21 members arrived on Thursday evening 7th July to chilled wine served in the kitchen garden prior to entering the Cookery School for a demonstration by Andy and Salvia (head of the kitchen). We began with a little amuse bouche of local smoked trout followed by pannacotta with pureed raspberries, small mouthfuls of lemon meringue pie, tiramisu ending with chocolate mousse – WOW – we were really spoiled. Whilst the demonstrations took place we learnt various methods of catering for people with allergies, such as using pasteurised egg whites to make meringue, Ultra-Tex for thickening fruit purees, how to load a piping bag with meringue without getting in a mess (for me) and generally having a very jolly and happy time. Members left having had a memorable visit, and we were even invited to pick rhubarb which some of us did. Thanks go to everyone at Lainston House who made us so welcome.
